Alpha Box Office: Alia Bhatt Spy Film Ends Under ₹100 Cr
Alpha closed near ₹99 crore worldwide against a reported ₹100 crore budget, per Koimoi. Figures, verdicts and the Spy Universe context.

Alpha, the YRF Spy Universe film led by Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, ended its theatrical run with a worldwide gross of about ₹99 crore, below its reported ₹100 crore budget. It opened on July 3, 2026, and Koimoi classes it as a losing film. The figures below are trade estimates, and the trackers' verdict labels differ.
The closing numbers
Koimoi's closing report gives Alpha a worldwide gross of about ₹99.07 crore: ₹59.29 crore net in India. Against a reported budget of ₹100 crore, Koimoi says the film recovered 59 per cent. Hindustan Times, writing as the run wound up, estimated that the film needed roughly ₹120 crore to ₹125 crore to break even, and described its second-week fall as weak.
Koimoi's own table says Losing. Hindustan Times put the break-even line well above the gross.
The opening
The opening was solid. Koimoi records an India net of ₹9.25 crore on day one and ₹34.5 crore for the opening weekend. With ₹59.29 crore net at the finish, more than half of the run's India net came in the first three days.
Cast and context
Alpha is directed by Shiv Rawail. According to the Wikipedia list of 2026 Hindi films, it stars Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor. It is part of the YRF Spy Universe, and Koimoi says it is the lowest-grossing film in that series, though it still ranked eighth among Bollywood grossers of 2026 worldwide when it closed.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh told Bollywood Hungama that the film was, in his words, "a beautiful body without a soul", and said a weak story let down the leads. A Bolly Bourse analysis took a different view of what the result means, arguing that ₹59 crore net was a modest outcome rather than a crisis for the Spy Universe. Both are opinions rather than data, and neither changes the collection figures.
Alia Bhatt's year
Alpha is one of two big Alia Bhatt releases tied to this period. According to Bollywood Hungama and Asianet Newsable, Love & War, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film with Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal, is scheduled for January 21, 2027. [IndiaToday.in](http://IndiaToday.in) reported in September that the film had wrapped shooting.
Alia also attended the 2026 Cannes Film Festival as L'Oréal Paris's global ambassador, according to CNBC TV18 and NDTV.
What the numbers do and do not say
A film that costs ₹100 crore and earns ₹99 crore worldwide has not recovered its cost, but gross is not what producers keep. Theatrical share, which is the portion that comes back to producers and distributors, is lower than gross. Non-theatrical sales can cover part of the gap, but those deals are rarely disclosed.
The bottom line
On the evidence available, Alpha grossed about ₹99 crore worldwide, earned ₹59 crore net in India, and recovered roughly 59 per cent of its reported budget. It is the weakest result in the YRF Spy Universe so far, and its second-week performance, not its opening, drove that outcome.
How it compares with other July-to-September releases
Alpha's ₹99 crore worldwide sits well below Dhamaal 4, which released a week later on July 10 and closed at about ₹236 crore worldwide on Koimoi's count, and far below Mirzapur: The Movie at roughly ₹337 crore. It is, however, close to Main Vaapas Aaunga, which Koimoi puts at ₹98.85 crore worldwide. The difference is that Imtiaz Ali's film carried a reported budget of ₹70 crore, so Koimoi's recovery figure for it is much higher, at about 93 per cent.
Budget assumptions, not gross, therefore explain most of the gap in labels between these films.
