Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, the David Dhawan comedy starring his son Varun Dhawan, opened on June 5, 2026 and has wrapped its theatrical run. Koimoi's closing report puts the worldwide gross at about ₹87.78 crore. The trackers have shifted their numbers during the run, and the figures here are trade estimates.

The closing numbers

Koimoi lists a worldwide gross of ₹87.78 crore: ₹72.9 crore gross in India, which is ₹61.78 crore net, and ₹14.88 crore overseas. Earlier estimates from Pinkvilla and ABP were lower, at about ₹71.25 crore, and later reports raised the total. That is why older articles quote lower totals.

Koimoi's verdict table labels the film Losing. KS Box Office, in its table, lists an India net of ₹51.4 crore and labels the film Average. The two trackers therefore differ on both the net figure and the label.

The opening

Koimoi records an opening-day India net of ₹8.65 crore and an opening weekend of ₹28.51 crore. At the finish, the weekend accounted for a little under half of the ₹61.78 crore India net, which suggests the film kept earning after its first three days rather than collapsing.

Cast and direction

The film is directed by David Dhawan. According to Wikipedia's list of 2026 Hindi films, it stars Varun Dhawan with Pooja Hegde, Mrunal Thakur, Jimmy Sheirgill and Mouni Roy. It is the latest in a long run of comedies from the director.

Where it sits in the June schedule

June 2026 was crowded. Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai opened on June 5, Main Vaapas Aaunga on June 12, Cocktail 2 on June 19 and Welcome to the Jungle on June 26. On Koimoi's closing numbers, the Varun Dhawan film earned less than each of the three that followed it:

- Main Vaapas Aaunga, about ₹98.85 crore worldwide - Cocktail 2, about ₹166.3 crore worldwide - Welcome to the Jungle, about ₹196.11 crore worldwide

What the numbers mean

A reported budget for this film is not available in the sources reviewed for this article, so there is no verified recovery percentage. Koimoi's Losing label therefore rests on a cost estimate readers cannot see. KS Box Office's Average label is also an estimate. What is verifiable is the gross: about ₹88 crore worldwide on Koimoi, and an India net of ₹51 crore to ₹62 crore depending on the tracker.

The gap of about ₹10 crore in India net between trackers shows how much early and late figures can differ.

Varun Dhawan's year

For Varun Dhawan, the film is a family-run comedy in a year in which the Hindi box office has been dominated by large action and franchise films. Border 2, Dhurandhar The Revenge and Drishyam 3 each earned several times as much in India net. A light comedy is judged against different expectations, and on Koimoi's figures the film still finished with more than ₹60 crore net in India.

The summary

Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai grossed about ₹88 crore worldwide on Koimoi's final count, earned about ₹62 crore net in India, and is labelled Losing by Koimoi and Average by KS Box Office. Its opening weekend of ₹28.51 crore was the biggest part of its earnings, but it kept collecting afterwards. Readers should expect the numbers to differ between sources and between early and late reports.
