O'Romeo, Vishal Bhardwaj's gangster romance with Shahid Kapoor, opened on February 13, 2026 and closed at about ₹123.1 crore worldwide on Koimoi's count. Against a reported budget of ₹130 crore, Koimoi labels the run Losing. The figures are trade estimates and trackers differ.

The numbers

Koimoi's closing report lists a worldwide gross of ₹123.1 crore: ₹98.35 crore gross in India and ₹24.75 crore overseas. The India net was ₹83.35 crore. With a reported budget of ₹130 crore, that leaves the film short of recovering its cost on Koimoi's reckoning. KS Box Office lists an India net of ₹69.10 crore and labels the film Average. The two India net figures differ by about ₹14 crore, which is a wide margin for a film that has finished its run.

The film and the cast

Wikipedia lists the cast as Shahid Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Triptii Dimri, Tamannaah Bhatia, Vikrant Massey, Avinash Tiwary, Disha Patani and Farida Jalal. Vishal Bhardwaj directs. His earlier films with Shahid Kapoor include Kaminey and Haider, and the cover photograph for this story shows Bhardwaj at the presentation of Kaminey at the 40th International Film Festival of India in Goa in 2009.

The reviews

The Hindu described the film as meandering. The Guardian also reviewed it. Reviews were not uniformly negative, but the two we verified suggest the film's pacing was a recurring complaint, in line with the box office result.

Shahid Kapoor's year

O'Romeo was the first of Shahid Kapoor's two 2026 releases. The second, Cocktail 2, opened on June 19 and closed at about ₹166.3 crore worldwide on Koimoi's count against a reported ₹110 crore budget. Shahid told the Times of India that he shot Cocktail 2 at the same time as O'Romeo.

On Koimoi's figures, Cocktail 2 earned about ₹43 crore more worldwide than O'Romeo.

Why Bhardwaj's film matters

The figures say this much: a ₹123 crore worldwide gross is a substantial number for a director-led film but below the cost assumed by Koimoi.

Compared with other 2026 films

O'Romeo's ₹123.1 crore worldwide sits above Alpha at ₹99.07 crore and Main Vaapas Aaunga at ₹98.85 crore, and below Cocktail 2 at ₹166.3 crore. Border 2, which opened in January, and Dhurandhar The Revenge are in an entirely different category by India net, at ₹362.76 crore and ₹1186.32 crore.

What the numbers do and do not show

They show that O'Romeo found a real audience but not enough to recover a reported ₹130 crore budget. They do not show how much of the budget was covered by non-theatrical sales, which are rarely disclosed. They also do not show how the film will be remembered, since a film's reputation can shift after it reaches streaming.

What comes next for Shahid

According to the sources we reviewed, Shahid's next confirmed project is Farzi 2. An untitled rom-com with Rashmika Mandanna, directed by Amit Ravindranath Sharma, is expected to start shooting in late 2026 for a mid-2027 release. Filmfare reported that claims he had joined another project, Adal Badal, were incorrect.

The bottom line

O'Romeo closed at about ₹123 crore worldwide, with an India net between ₹69 crore and ₹83 crore depending on the tracker. It earned mixed reviews and a Losing label from Koimoi. For Vishal Bhardwaj, it is a large-scale film that did not reach its cost on the tracker's reckoning.
